The Spatialization of Racism – the Racialization of Space
Reflections on the Interconnection of Space and Racism in Spatial Theory, Postcolonial Theology and Religious Education

This article illuminates the close interconnection between space and racism. The central premise is that racism is not only an ideological and social construct but also spatially anchored. The article begins with a spatial-theoretical analysis, shedding light on the processes of the ‘spatialization of racism’ and the ‘racialization of space’. These interrelations are then critically examined and deconstructed from a postcolonial theological perspective, aiming to conceptualize theological counter-spaces. Finally, the article outlines how a spatially sensitive and racism-critical approach can be practically applied in religious education.
